Pizza is one of life’s luxuries despite not being made out of anything expensive. But the problem with pizza can be just that…what it’s made of. Almost every part of this delicious food is a carpets worst nightmare.
Grease, tomato sauce (different from ketchup), sugar and cheese are some of the hardest stains to remove from anything, but especially carpets and upholstery.
While most of us indulge in this wonderful staple, very few of us consider the consequences of spilling it onto our carpet or upholstery, until its too late that is.
Well now’s the time to find out how to clean pizza sauce out of carpet with home ingredients.
Steps for removing pizza stain from carpet
Get rid of the dropped pizza slice
Use washing detergent and warm water
Stain removal fast
Dry the area
What you need
Washing detergent
Stain remover
Rubber gloves
Bucket or spray bottle
Kitchen roll or towels
1) Get rid of the dropped pizza slice
Might seem obvious to some but you will want to remove the dropped pizza from the stained area.
This doesn’t just mean the bulk of it, any cheese or excess tomato sauce sitting on top should be removed with kitchen roll.
Once the area is free from exterior contamination, you can then move onto the next step.
2) use washing detergent and warm water
You can either mix it in a bowl or put in a spray bottle. Generously apply the mixture to the stain and rub it in using either a carpet brush or your fingers depending on what you have available.
This will allow the mixture to penetrate the fibres of your carpet and attack the stain. While doing so won’t remove the stain completely, it will lighten it and make the next step much easier.
3) stain removal fast
After mixing the warm water and detergent into the stain, quickly grab a stain removal product which deals with food such as HG stain remover.
Let that sit for a few minutes while rubbing it in with either fingers or brush. Doing so will allow your stain remover to work its magic on the pizza stain lifting it from your carpets fibres.
Alternatively if you have a steam cleaner, you can use this instead to remove the stain, as long as it hasn’t been sitting for too long on the carpet.
Simply apply pressure onto the stained area with your steam cleaner and go in back and forth motions until the stain has gone.
4) dry the area
Drying the stained area allows you to see if the entire stain has been removed or not. Once dry, check the area over to ensure nothing remains.
If it does then you will have to repeat steps 2 and 3 again until the entire stain has gone.
Good to have
Steam cleaner
With a steam cleaner (even a cheap one), you can cut your time in half when dealing with pretty much any stain.
This is because steam heats up the chemicals inside stain removers which activates their restorative compounds.
Using steam is also a great way to deodorise a stained area removing odours that would otherwise have been left behind.
a steamer on a pizza stain is a particularly good idea when you consider what pizzas are actually made of. It will be able to get rid of the cheese with ease (rhyme intended) and is ideal for removing saucy stains too.
Wet and dry vacuum
Having a wet and dry vacuum to my mind is an absolute must for people with carpets. It is just as cheap as your average vacuum anyway but obviously more messy when emptying.
The reason why they are so essential though is that you can suck up accidental spillages. Without one you need to use methods such as dabbing with kitchen roll but this can only serve to work the stain deeper into the carpet fibres.
Having a wet and dry can be used as a carpet cleaner for stains too. You can suck up stain removal products without risking it’s motor. We highly recommend that anyone with a carpet gets one of these machines.
Carpet or upholstery brush
A small but effective tool for stains, with a carpet brush you can scrub deep into the fibres of your carpet allowing for better success at removing pretty much any kind of contaminant.
These small but mighty brushes are a must have for anyone with a carpet. You can just about remove a pizza stain without one but it will take time and you will feel like your arm is falling off without one.
