Scrape the excess cream off

Before starting the stain removal process it is important to get rid of as much excess sudocrem as possible from the top layer of your carpets.

To do this simply grab a kitchen knife and scrape the top layers away, being careful not to ease any in while doing so.

You may want to grab some kitchen roll as well to dab onto the stained area removing as much as possible.

Use warm water and washing detergent

Spray generously onto the stain and then use an upholstery brush to open up the fibres.

This will make the next step a lot easier as you have laid a foundation on which to put your stain removal mixture.

Not only that but because you’ve used warm water, it will activate the cleaning properties all the more.

Apply a mixture of vinegar and baking soda

Now that the carpet is primed for stain removal, grab some vinegar and apply it to the stained area.

Be careful not to over wet the area as you only need enough to cover the top layer. Grab your upholstery brush and work the vinegar into the stain but only gently.

Apply the baking soda and rub it into the stain. Leave for 10 minutes until all of the vinegar and sudocrem has had chance to be absorbed into the baking soda.

Vacuum Out Of The Carpet

Finally it’s time to remove that mixture of vinegar and baking soda. To do this wait for 5 minutes to make sure that all of the moisture has been dried up into the baking soda. This is important because you don’t want to break your hoover (unless its a wet vac).

Hoover up the mixture from the carpet with a vacuum cleaner that has a bag inside. Go over it a few times until all of the baking soda is gone. Your stain should now be removed but if not just add some more baking soda and vinegar and hoover up again.

The carpet may smell slightly due to the vinegar. This will either go away in time, or you can apply some air freshener to get rid of it.

Good to have

Steam cleaner

Having access to a steam cleaner makes pretty much every kind of stain easier to deal with but particularly oil based stains. Sudocrem will be easily removed with steam and a bit of your vinegar and baking soda mixture.

Not only that but it will help with the leftover smell that the vinegar brings. You won’t need to deodorise anything afterwards since the smell should mostly be gone.

Wet and dry vacuum

If you have a wet and dry vacuum to hand then we highly recommend using it. This makes each phase much more likely to succeed. You will be able to suck out the moisture before it has a chance to set.

You can also be sure that the motor won’t be damaged when vacuuming anything up. No need for a bag either, however it will be harder to clean up afterwards inside the vacuum.

You don’t have to be a professional to own one of these machines. You can get a good one for about the same price as a normal vacuum cleaner.

Oil based removal product

Sudocrem isn’t like food stains such as ketchup or raw egg. This is an oil based product which means you need a specific method in dealing with it.

Having an oil based carpet cleaning product from brands such as ecolab is the fastest and most sure-fire way of removing your sudocrem stain. You can skip step 2 and 3 by using this product.

All you need to do is follow step 1 (scraping the excess cream away) and then spray this product onto the stain. Use your upholstery brush to rub in the chemical, wait 5-10 minutes and then either use a wet and dry vacuum or sprinkle some baking soda on and hoover up with a normal dry vacuum.
